I called in and explained how I bought the phone used. I believe their policy is that the phone has to be out of a contract or bought out(or hardware upgraded), its a dumb policy because a contract is tied to the account and not the phone. So say you bought it off a guy who wanted a new phone but had 2 years left on his contract, fido wont unlock it unless the owner who signed the contract paid the remainder of the phone off. Its dumb like I said but somehow I got lucky and they didnt even care about the previous owner, they thought it was mine to start with.
At the moment your out of luck to downgrade it, it was maybe 3 days later that apple caught on and stopped allowing people to downgrade their phones/basebands, I was lucky and I was able to restore my phone but later on I got it hardware unlocked anyways.
You are pretty much shit outta luck right now ... all you can do is give it time for hackers to figure out a unlock. I have a 32gb telus iphone 4 sitting next to me as a paper weight atm because im in the same situation as you.
OR you can always sell the phone and get a phone thats already unlocked or specific to your carrier, iphones hold their value well.
