Update on MSU Campaign and recount
It looks like some of the topics of discussion which have been bouncing around in the MacInsiders forum appeared to be correct. One of the candidates has petitioned for a vote recount (due to the very close nature of the votes ... Jerimi winning by only 8 votes). Still
no word on the reasoning behind Joel's disqualification.
Update: There has been an official announcement on the Elections website regarding Joel's disqualification. It reads: "The Elections Committee has disqualified candidate Joel Levitt due to the sheer volume and nature of election violations both prior to and during the campaign period as well as his campaign’s general disregard for the election rules." Thanks to user "bksull" for pointing this out.
The following was posted on the MSU website:
"There have been many questions surrounding the outcome of the recent MSU Presidential election, which the McMaster Students Union would like to take the time to address. The MSU takes its elections very seriously and works hard to ensure that the democratic process works at all levels of student government.
While the counting of the Presidential election ballots was delayed until Saturday due to a lengthier than expected fines process, the elections committee reached quorum and has declared Jerimi Jones MSU President-Elect. The elections committee has however received a petition for recount, due to the close nature of the results."
