VIA Train De-Railment, February 26th 2012
Hey guys, the VIA Train just derailed at Burlington.

http://www.cp24.com/servlet/an/local.../?hub=CP24Home

Very unfortunate. I hope no one on here is hurt.

Just a heads up for those whom take the GO Train I'm not sure what kind of delays may come about, but keep an eye out.

All the best, I'll try to update the thread.

Update I: Its really bad at Aldershot apparently :S The trains to Burlington are all turning back tonight.

They don't know how it happened yet. They're investigating. There were 75 people on the train, 60 of which were trapped in the train after it derailed. Three people have died, all VIA Rail employees. Three people were also airlifted to the hospital. The QEW is closed in order to make room for ambulances and stretches of Plains Road are also closed. Other trains that are supposed to use the same rail are turning back... and that's everything I have heard so far. A Code Orange (disaster) has been put in place. Hamilton Health Sciences is accepting patients and "the walking wounded" now.

They're still looking into the cause of the accient and say it can take weeks or even months to be positive of the cause. They're also looking into whether gas was spilled or not.

Yeah, apparently the cause of the accident was mainly the speed of the train. It was going four times faster than it should have been. They can't question the VIA Rail engineers, because they were all killed in the crash.
