Volunteer Position Available for Pop The Bubble
The McMaster Office of Community Service-Learning and Civic Engagement (OCSLCE)'s Pop the Bubble initiative is looking for three bloggers for the 2009-2010 academic year.
‘Pop the Bubble’ is a year-round student civic engagement initiative presented by the McMaster Office of Community Service-Learning and Civic Engagement (OCSLCE). Its main goal is to encourage McMaster students to burst the campus bubble to become engaged with the city of Hamilton.
‘Pop the Bubble’ (macpopthebubble.word press.ca) blog functions as a main tool of communication for this initiative. Its purpose is to promote different avenues of interest for students to explore the city of Hamilton and to develop a sense of community and belonging within the city.
Important Info:
Work Schedule: Flexible, one staff meeting every other week
Nature of Work: Must write one blog per week (not including exam period). This includes research, interviews, editing and any other work associated with producing a quality blog entry.
Wage/Salary: Volunteer
Employment Start Date: September 1st, 2009
Employment End Date: March 31st, 2010
Supervisor: Adam Kuhn (Manager, Office of Community Service-Learning and Civic Engagement)
Job Description: The Pop the Bubble blogger will work closely with the OCSLCE Manger to further the vision of the campaign. Duties include but not limited to: maintaining the Pop the Bubble blog by writing, formatting and promotion of the Pop the Bubble through different mediums in the McMaster and Hamilton community.
Requirements:
- Strong communication skills; oral, written, multi-media
- Interest in writing and blogging - Engaged with current events around Hamilton
- Knowledge of campus media sources (i.e. MacInsiders, etc)
- Familiarity with basic HTML programming
- Ability to work independently, showing maturity, responsibility and positive attitude towards tasks at hand. Must take initiative and be proactive.
- Ability to utilize creative strategies for promotion of overall message of Pop the Bubble
- Working knowledge of computers and computer applications. Design skills and creativity an asset.
