At least there weren't in Moulton where I lived last year.
I can't imagine why you'd need a soap dish though. I never needed one last year.

I agree, just bring a bottle of dish detergent.

Another question: What the rules surrounding having a blow dryer and hair straightener in your room?

I read somewhere they were not allowed to be used in your room. Is that true?

Yep, no dish detergent in the kitchens, so bring your own. What you can also do is arrange with some other people on your floor to all chip in for some common stuff like dish detergent, laundry detergent, etc. and split the cost amongst you.

As for the blow dryer/hair straightener, I don't think you can have them in your room, but you can definitely use them in the bathrooms, so if you want to bring them, go ahead

Yeah so I was reading the residence code of conduct (I have no life) [ http://www.mcmaster.ca/univsec/policy/ResidenceCode.pdf ] and basically you can't use anything that heats up in your room as a general rule. But using them in "the common area" (ie. bathroom, kitchen, hallway, stairway) is fine.

Basically they don't want your room to accidentally catch fire. It only takes like 30 seconds.

But, I was wondering, what's the "penalty" for having it/using it in your room.. Not that I'm planning to do so or anything

It would be considered a minor offence and the sanction for minor offences can be anything from a verbal warning to a fine to an educational sanction depending on the severity. You can refer to the RCC for the full list if you're interested.

This all depends on whether your C.A would document of course.

That's really weird. I don't think anyone that I know followed that rule for hairdryers, straighteners or curling irons. Everyone used it very carefully in their rooms. It's just too difficult when you have common washrooms to straighten your hair.

I highly doubt a CA will write you up for drying your hair.

That's true... a lot of hair straighteners and curling irons (mine included) now have automatic shut offs to prevent accidents.

Hairdryers/straighteners tend to pull a lot of electricity, which in turn causes the system to flip the switch for your room and cut off all electricity going to your room. It doesn't happen all the time...but if it does, then you need to ask your CAs to flip the switch back on for you. This isn't such a big deal...unless your CAs aren't in and you need electricity in your room immediately.

Yes, Wallingford Hall has some of the largest double rooms on campus, you'll definitly be able to fit in 2 mini fridges.

Although, you could fit two fridges, my cousin lived in residence and from her experience, she said one mini fridge between two people would be more than enough.
