I heard that most courses in first year are not allow to choose our own preferred time for class?

Hi Mandie,

You have some flexibility when deciding what your schedule will be like in first year but it isn't entirely up to you. You can't go like "I want Econ 1B03 at 4:30-5:20, so I'll just put that there". No, you can't do that. There are prefixed time slots for all your lectures, tutorials and labs (if you have any). Do you know what courses you'll be taking? If so, you can check them out here: https://adweb.cis.mcmaster.ca /mtt/U201209.html and see when you can take what course and sort of plan ahead of time. If you need anymore help, feel free to ask.

Yup, it varies from class to class. Some courses might let you choose your core, lab or tutorial but most first year courses don't give you the choice. Just make sure that you courses don't conflict with each other.

For tutorials you are given the option to change them as long as they aren't full, and if there is more than one core you can change it as well.

I planned my schedule based on the MTT site
I want to have all my lessons early, so I dont want them to give me a class at 5:30- 6:30..
So there is no point for me to rush to MUGSI to pick the course early??

Thanks for everyone's answers (:

Most classes if not all fill up pretty quickly. If the course you want to take is popular the chances are the choices you'd like to pick will probably be filled up if you didn't join in on the fun and try getting on to SOLAR first.

Basically you will pick the term you want your courses in and they will make you a schedule. In August you can go back and change that schedule to what you want provided there is room in whatever lecture section you want. The classes in first year are pretty big and I found changing things to my liking was pretty straightforward.

if you dont get into a class at the time u wanted
just register for what ever core is open and go to the core you want.
the material taught is going to be the same just a different prof. and time.
