Weightlifting/track at mac?
Hey, how is the gym at mcmaster? I'm really interested in olympic weightlifting, but doing something like this obviouslyrequires coaching, etc. Is there a weightlifting team?

Also, for track, when are tryouts? How hard is it to get in? I'm interested in 100m/200m.

Basically, I want to know everything there is to know about mcmaster weightroom/track etc.

Thanks!

There are personal trainers: http://www.athrec.mcmaster.c a/fitn...es/trainer.htm

Track & Field: I can't find any information on it. There is already a roster so I don't know if the try-outs already passed or if the roster is from last year. Call McMaster and ask for the Paula Schnurr. She's the coach: http://www.athrec.mcmaster.c a/athl...oach_snead.htm

Im also interested in trying out for track, let me know how it goes when you contact her. I tried emailing the head coach a month ago and he never replied but now there is a different head coach with no email address to contact her with.

Probably quicker to just go into the Athletic Center and ask around on a weekday?

Are they working during the summer? I mean, if they haven't even done try-outs yet I wouldn't expect them to be in their office...

If you do want to try that, I suggest calling McMaster and asking if they are working first.

Your likely going to want to contact the sprint coach, Erik Enders, at [email protected]. He should be able to tell you everything you need to know.

Basically as far as I've seen the sprinters do some on there own strength work in the summer and then start doing team workouts in the fall.

The track head coach is Paula Schnurr, [email protected] com, and the other coaches are Rory Sneyd [email protected] cmaster.ca, and Pete Self [email protected].

If your interested in the sprints or field events definitely contact Enders first, but the other coaches will help you too. If your interested in the middle distance and cross country contact Schnurr, Sneyd and Self.

I'm on the cross country and track team so I can answer some of your questions.

Paula Schnurr is just moving into her new office due to the official position she was just given at McMaster - she's only been on campus since the 9th.

Paula is largely responsible for middle/long distance track events like the 800m and others up to the 3k. The unofficial sprint coach is named Eric Enders and the short distance track program parallels the cross country season before the two programs join in January and compete through the indoor season.

If you want to try out for either team - check the dates available on the ath/rec site.

http://www.athrec.mcmaster.c a/stud...te/tryouts.htm

This list will populate closer to the end of August. Usually there is the introductory team meeting during frosh week, I think it's on the 7/8/9th this year - usually Wednesday - and then the cross country team holds their try-out on the Friday.

I don't quite remember how the sprint-track schedule works out for try-outs. Eric Enders' email is [email protected] and he should have a much better idea closer to September.

I'm sorry I can't help with weightlifting much - but if you have any other questions about track I can hopefully answer them.

When are practices and what if you have classes during that time, do you just show up after class is over or something?

You can pay right now if you can get down to McMaster while the office is open. You might as well just wait until you actually get to school, but there will be a long line.
