I'm not sure what's going on, but they aren't letting people go on campus from the crosswalk on Cootes

Edit: from theSpec on twitter - fire department confirms chemical spill at tandem accelerator, students being evacuated from campus

Now they have confirmed that there is no spills, durr this is obviously a set up for faculty day.

" A McMaster spokesperson said there has been no spill confirmed and the investigation is on-going. He said the incident was isolated to one lab." -derp derp

Hi all, here's what happened today at the Tandem Accelerator Building:

Earlier this afternoon a researcher in a lab in the Tandem Accelerator Building was following common practice and purging a tank with nitrogen, an inert gas. During this procedure an alarm sounded. In accordance with University protocols, the Tandem Accelerator Building and the adjoining General Sciences Building were both evacuated. Hamilton Fire Services were called to campus. For a shorter time, the Burke Science Building was also evacuated. Some area streets were briefly cordoned off.

After Hamilton Fire Services completed its investigation, the buildings were deemed safe and have been returned to the University's control. No one was injured during the incident.

I was there when it happened. Heard it through a text first and dismissed it, until I saw the police cars. Police is serious business.

So all evacuees were exiting Mac, breathing in the cool air, and all personnel had these purple gas masks on. It was cool
