Residence has a bed, closet, desk, chair, shelves and a lamp. So you don't need to get any of those. Before they used to allow you to get your own mini fridge but I believe they changed the rules and now you have to rent one for about $110 for the whole year.

Edit.

I was right.
"Effective September 2011 students will not be permitted to bring personal refridgerators into the residence buildings."

refer to this page:

Yeah I know. It's a stupid rule of theirs. When I was in First year and up until last year you used to be able to get your own. Those things cost around $150 anyways. So I guess McMaster House Services realized that everyone was getting their own fridge so decided that they would make more money if they force everyone to rent their fridges.

I guess you could try bringing one and see if you can sneak it in at night or something second week into the semester when the CA's aren't around as much. Worst case scenario is they catch you and you would have to remove it from your room.

Yeah the best thing to do is go to Welcome Day in August to see what your room will look like.

I think the bigger problem was that the fridges were so cheap that people were disposing of them at the end of the year rather than selling or moving them. The university then had to deal with all the waste.
