Whitney Houston, one of the most amazing singers of all time, has died today at 48 years of age.

No cause of death has been announced thus far.

Drug and alcohol abuse is a hard addiction to stop, if she died from that then it's a shame but shouldn't be viewed as it being her fault.

On-topic: I know she was popular, but I can't say I know any of her songs other than that one from The Bodyguard.
