Is Wolfram Mathematica worth it?

Has anyone used Wolfram Mathematica? I'm thinking about asking for it for my birthday. I know I used Alpha constantly through first year, especially for integration and stuff, but I don't know how much of an improvement Mathematica 8 would be or if it would benefit me.

My math courses are MATH 2A03, 2R03 and STATS 2D03 this year. I'm just doing a minor.

Any reviews?
