Work-Study
Is it better to apply for work study or can you get a job on campus without having to apply to work-study?
Also, when applying for work study do you have to find a job thorugh OSCAR? if so...why isnt it working :S

You can get jobs on campus without work-study yes. If I am not mistaken, they are the jobs through the MSU. Check the MSU job board at http://www.msu.mcmaster.ca/mirror/jobsvol.php to see what is available for the year.

And what do you mean by "better"?

As for OSCAR, I have no idea. That system just went up in the last few months, and I'm still trying to figure it out myself.

the mcwork program is just summer jobs, i'm looking for jobs for the school year which is work study.
Also, for the work study... you have to find the jobs yourself and then apply for the work study program right?
Whats the purpose of doing that?

It's kinda the other way around. You get accepted into Work study by getting accepted via MUGSI, apply for the job through OSCAR and then submit a copy of your accepted Work study application to your supervisor.
The work-study jobs are not released until August 1. They are available now for you to check out

To be honest, I'm not sure. It is possible that there aren't a lot of postings up right now as all the upper years will have already snagged them at this point.

To work off campus like at Starbucks, Tim Hortons, etc. you'd probably want to look on either Monster.ca or Workopolis.ca

The Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and Williams on campus are administered by Hospitality Services (which provides all the food on campus), so you may not find job postings specifically for those names - they may just be general ones listed under Hospitality (but I honestly don't know, I've never used this system - it could help explain it, though). I do know that if you get hired to work for them you'll probably make a lot more money than working at their counterparts off campus, owing to the unionization.

Also, pre-renovation, there used to be a Starbucks on the 2nd floor of BSB, too - I don't know if that'll go back in after they're done with that floor.

Haha. Or IF rather than WHEN?

it seems like they've been fixing BSB for soooo long.
