Working during the year? First year?
Hey I was just wondering if it's practical to work a part time job during first year on a full course load? (5 courses per semester/ 20ish hours a week?). Also, can the MSU help you find a job? Do you have to be in need of financial aid for them to help? Any answers would be helpful!

It is possible to do a part time job while doing a full course load. If you want to, you can apply for a work-study program on OscarPlus but you have to be with OSAP in order to do so.

Oscarplus seems to be more for a full time job/co-op position once you're in 2nd or 3rd year. Would it also work for someone who just going into first year?

You have to click on the work-study tab on oscarplus to see the jobs available for you. Yes, it will work for someone who is going into first year

At my first University I worked on campus, it's pretty flexible because the good part of working on campus is that they understand school comes first. At my second university (I know, I've been to a lot of schools lol) I also worked on campus, both times I worked with the events squad however at my second school they wanted you to prioritize work over school. So it just all depends on who you end up working for.

I plan on working at Mac as well, you have to log onto Oscar Plus and click on workstudy to see on campus job opportunities and apply for jobs. However none of this will be available until August 1st.

Here's more on how to apply: http://sfas.mcmaster.ca/work_study/jobs.html

I've worked at the school ever since first year and I can tell you its manageable.

If work through the Work-Study program, this allows you to work at least 10 hours a week.

I've been able to have days where I would work, then have class, then go back to work.

If you get the chance to work on campus, definitely take it!
