Anyone besides me notice how friggin slow the campus wireless has been for the past few days? On Monday I was literally not able to get on the internet anywhere in ITB or Thode, and now it's intermittently very slow.

Anyone else experiencing this, or is my laptop just trolling me?

YOur not the only one mate. Wireless has been super shitty for the past few days,..had to keep plugging back into the ethernet.

I was in Mills and couldn't load Google.

Thode gets slower this time of year due to the large amount of people "studying".

Are any of you running Linux? I had issues myself (with Ubuntu 9.10), but after replacing network-manager with wicd, and switching to its default wext driver things seem to be a lot better. That said, there are a few APs in Thode that don't let me connect, and it's not too fast in general.

I had the same problem. Combine this issue with the lack of places to study, really pisses me off. I notice a huge difference in this type of stuff compared to my first year.

The student centre internet is super slow, but hamilton hall isn't giving me any trouble

its slow at times but fast at others for me......been a real pain in the butt

MDCL is suuuuper slow. I think it just varies from building to building.

The university must have forgotten to pay their cable bill so they are getting throttled back.

Just trying to reply to this from Thode is proving to be difficult; you're not the only one. It seems lately that no matter where I take my laptop in Thode all I get is about 20-40% WIFI reception.

I am third year and I noticed the same thing, especially regarding the study spaces. This has been the worst year yet in regards to trying to find places to study.

Mine's been awful pretty much all over campus. So frustrating. :(

Yeah, I've had intermittent trouble in ITB, although the student centre tends to be pretty good outside of peak hours (before 10:30 and after 4:30).

I tend to do all my studying off campus, so I generally don't have to deal with this stuff

But there are a lot of great unused places on campus to study. The computer labs in the second floor of BSB tend to be really quiet, and since the monitors are mounted you get lots of desk space. The computer lab in the Psych Complex is also generally pretty empty, although it closes early (5ish). Hamilton Hall is pretty dead during exam time, and is a great study environment. I also like the empty classrooms in BSB and MDCL, they tend to be very quiet (however I'm not sure if they stay unlocked during the exam period).

The entire wireless system needs a complete overhaul. Poor reception and coverage in the most high traffic areas. Couple that with the issues that using Clean Access Agent creates, and a poor backbone, and you get mac internet.

It would be a relatively small investment to fix this issue, and I dont understand why they won't make it.
