Year off/Victory lap??
I just realized, because I did 5 years of high school, I'll be 19 while the majority of my year [I'm assuming] will still be 18
Obvi this isn't actually a problem [except when they ask me to buy them alcohol ]
As I was thinking this, I got curious about the amount of people who didn't go into post-sec straight after high school, too.
Are you guys out there?

I'll be 19 till October, then I'm 20. I took a victory lap + I went to another school last fall, but didn't like it, hence why I'm starting first year late, I guess.

Lol. This is gonna be weird considering I'll be a year younger than "normal" first years. I'm 17 and turned 17 this past March. So you'll be two years older than me...

Age doesn't really matter unless you let it. Yes I'd be a little alarmed if a random 40 year old pretended to be part of WW and invited you "over to his place for a personal party", but a few years isn't a big deal. You'll find first years who are way more mature than some upper years, and then the first years who a victory lap or two may have served well. The same goes for upper years.
The important thing is to bond with people on your interests and passions; It may feel awkward because you know your age but it truly won't make a difference to the genuine friends you make.

It's true. When I get together with friends from school, I forget I have several years on them. At least until someone starts talking about the 80s, when they weren't even born til '90 or '91, then I feel compelled to correct them

i also stayed an extra year in highschool myself but i found that age didn't really make a difference. Some people in my first year were younger too.. i know someone who started first year with me when they were 16

I went to college for a year and made good friends with people ranging from 20-28 while i was still only 18.
Then i came back to first year at mac and i was a year older . But after high school i dont think age matter as much.

I am starting my second degree at the age of 23 (+11 months) and I have every intention on meeting new people and making friends during welcome week. Age is but a number, it's all about meeting the people you will be spending the next 4 years in class and around campus with. The only difference, is you can do it while under the influence of alcohol (legally).

If by "victory lap", you mean "forced to stay an extra year because I bombed my first time through grade 12 due to my school's self-pace learning system", then yes, I did take a victory lap. =p
I have no regrets at all though. Easily my best year of high school in terms of both marks and fun, and I find that the extra year I had to mature helped.
And yeah, like everyone else is saying age doesn't matter, since when university starts everything is normalized. There's about a three-year gap within my group of friends who are all in my year and it rarely makes a difference. If you look closely, you can sort of pick out instances of immaturity in the people a year younger than you, but then again you can do that with people of any age...
