I agree this thread is as useless as kim kardashian's library card.

Are you saying Armenian people don't use the library?

Do people not have any pride in where they come from? I always thought it was beautiful to celebrate our differences instead of pretending they don't exist.

It's not beautiful to celebrate ALL differences, maybe some. But others are not so beautiful, so its better not to embrace those differences.

Maybe I misunderstood, but did you just say that some "races" have less beautiful differences? 0_o

I think of it like this...pretending we're all the same is silly-we're not. That just diminishes the things about each of us that makes us unique. By pretending we're all the same, you make it harder to accept and be proud of who you are. Instead, it shouldn't be something we approach with trepidation, but elation. Celebrate, embrace and love each other's differences.
That extends beyond appearance to culture as well of course, even though I know this thread is about 'race'.

Or depending how you look at it, one of the worst things about the school.

Well I just mean that every race has something ugly about it. We cant celebrate everything. I mean are we going to celebrate an honour killing in Toronto? No we probably shouldnt.

The term "race" is very narrowing though, "race" just narrows an individual down on the basis of their physical appearance. I think we should definitely celebrate ethnicity, culture and diversity, but the term "race" kind of reduces it how people look, and there are a lot of negative associations with what "race" is.

I'm not saying don't celebrate your heritage/culture/etc. But for most people, race comes down to one thing... and that's skin colour. Maybe eye shape if you wanna get more detailed.

Why should you be proud of your race? You had no control over that. There's nothing to celebrate. Celebrate yourself, your existence, the things you love, the things you do, but don't focus on skin color.

Why not? That's all part of loving how you look. Why not love the shape of your eyes, or your skin colour etc.?

It's just a healthy body image thing really.
It's just like how people celebrate gay pride, or their body shape(skinny or fat, short, tall etc.)-they have no control over that, but they still celebrate it.

You're really missing the point. I don't think further clarification is needed.

"I love the fact that I'm white."

Yea, okay..
