$1000 Laptop
I'm looking to buy a new laptop and am willing to burn 1 grand ... I initially wanted to get the Macbook Pro but from what I read the specs to price ratio is pretty bad ... So whats a good PC to go for. Portability is key, yet I also like speed and would love to be able to game (up to for example the latest COD release), although gaming is not a priority.

The main thing is that I want a computer that will last for five years ... everyone says there are PC's that can easily match mac's in terms of durability yet I don't know where to start ... any suggestions.

Thanks in advance for all your replies.

Alright, last September i got a solid Asus laptop, 15 inch screen, runs games like CoD, Portal, SC2 on high and without lag. That cost me $850 so its easily doable to find what you are looking for... I would recommend checking out TigerDirect.ca or CanadaComputers.com

A good choice would be something like http://www.canadacomputers.c om/pro...em_id =035000 this one. The specs are great and its not too bad in price.

I just picked up the new Inspiron. Pretty solid. 14", 6g ram, i5 sandy bridge, 500gig 7200rpm harddrive, intel internal graphics (only bad thing), for $700, you can upgrade to a nice nvidea one for another $100.

Great specs for the price. A lot of people have a stigma for buying Dell, but this laptop is preettttyyy sweet.

Other than that, most Lenovo's will give you great durability/specs (price is usually on the higher end though)

Not to be advertising but, redflagdeals gets some pretty sweet deals on Lenovo's 40% off in some cases, so keep an eye out.

Thanks for all your replies guys ... the key is portability. The Macbook Pro is so sleek and thin ... The only comp that I see that compares is the Samsung Series 9 ... but thats way above my budget ($1600) ... Have you guyz seen anything comparable?

trust me it is not. For the first two years i had a macbook air. Sure it was light and left a lot of space in my backpack but the lack of screen real estate was bothersome, especially when doing any sort of financial analysis. The value of being able to have two windows side by side is certainly greater than the cost associated with it being a little heavier.

Go with an asus laptop. They are durable and come with 1 year accidental warranty and 2 years standard warranty.
Check out the N52, N53, K52, K53 models. They seem to fit in your price range depending on the specific configuration.

When you decide on a particular model and configuration, use shopbot to find the store that sells it for the cheapest

Hmm k. Has anyone used a 15" laptop for school ... if so was it hard to carry around?
