1st year Psychology Question.
1) I have a tutorial this monday, can i still switch the time of that class to a later time in the day? or is too late?

2) Are all psych students suppose to use Experimetrix?

3) Coursebook, will I need that the first tutorial because i haven't bought it yet?

Thanks for help in advance

You can still change courses/cores around until the 21st. I took Psych 2 years ago....but I'm pretty sure that the lectures are in sort of video format (you access the course site and watch the lectures online) but you still have to attend tutorial.

Experimetrix - if it's still the same as last year, it's a small percent of your course mark if you choose to participate. I highly suggest doing them early!

Textbook - you can wail til your first tutorial, see if you are required to use it or not

Last year, I believe Experimetrix was 5% of your mark if you participate the full two hours.

You wont really need the course book during tutorials. During core, if you want you may want to take notes on what the TA says in the book but again, you don't absolutely need it.

And unless the course has changed, you won't need the textbook.

Well there's no more tutorials (the core is mixed in with it now so you only have 1 actual class per week), but I don't know how much the actual course itself has changed.

I never even touched the coursebook last year. Waste of money.

How hard is it to get a 12 in that class (with and without the course book)?

I asked someone about how tough it was yesterday, and they said as long as you keep up with the readings, it's not hard. But I'm not too sure if that includes the textbook too =/

The textbook (Psychology, by Gray) is supposed to supplement your learning - nothing from the text will be tested. But however, stuff from the courseware can be. How useful is the courseware? I don't want to shell out $45~ if it's garbage.

The course ware improved has from last year... it seems to have text/visual slides from the online lectures which would save you some writing. You don't really need this though however, there also seems to be a bit more reading in the course ware compared to last year's courseware and this reading is testable. I didn't buy the course ware for term 2 psych and there were 5 marks (out of around total 40 marks) that you wouldn't know unless you read the course ware.

I got an 8 last year and didn't have the book... and I didn't read/watch like 3-4 weeks worth of lectures.

Just for clarification, this year experimetrix decreases your exam value from 40% to 35% and the 5% will be added to your grade. (Basically like a free 5%) You do have to complete 2 hours of experiments though.

The TA's and Dr. Kim are stressing that we really need it because the courseware is now dramatically different...

There go 51 dollars and 98 cents...

so the experimetrix is not required, only if you want too.

Experimetrix gives you easy marks. I don't see why you won't want to participate.

Most of them don't even last the time they say it does (so you'll probably spend 10 minutes and get 30 minutes worth of credit). Plus it's not like it's hard to do or anything. I got .5 credits for sitting in front of a computer and rating the attractiveness of female voices.

Also it sucks they changed the courseware for you guys this year..... Well it kinda sucks for me too, because I paid for something I never used the rest of the year, but now you're obligated to buy it... D:
