I can't even say that the recordings of concerts are that great. I've seen them live then watched a recording from someone like 3 spots in front of me and it just didn't feel the same.

Plus they keep introducing new songs from their yet to be released album.

Arkells are amazing live. They always have little extensions to their songs that they use to include the audience and get the room going, Max has lots of energy. They are awesome, don't judge a band unless you've heard their songs and seen their live show.

And Alexisonfire... Common, one of the best bands out of Canada, and you're trying to say Gaga or Keshia is better? lol

I don't know much about Alexisonfire, but calling a band bad when they have a lot of fans seems to be a little harder to prove than just saying "plain and simple"

And Arkells? Well....."Ballad of Hugo Chavez". That's all I have to say.

I'm probably biased about the Arkells, I went to the same highschool as Max - he probably has no idea who I am since I was a lowly ninth grader when he was in grade 12 and the school president. Guy always walked around in sandals and socks, with a guitar in his hand haha.

They are pretty good though, haven't seen them live but I've heard good things.

That is true, but if we were talking about, say, The Beatles, who were an extremely popular band, it would be difficult for someone who thinks they were terrible to prove that they were. It's just hard to demonstrate a band's goodness/badness simply. Subjectivity!

( Well, unless we're talking about Brokencyde, then it's pretty easy. )

Popularity trumped yet again! This seems to be a dying argument....

Well, at the very least, this year will be better than last year, aside from the lack of USS; I'll miss that blender....

I used to get pretty disappointed at the frosh week bands we get but after looking around at the other schools they're not any better. It seems like there is just the same dozen or so bands that do the frosh circuit in Ontario and they just move around from school to school.

It's just too bad that I don't like any of them much. I mean there are so many Canadian acts that I love but I guess either they decide not to do frosh or no school ever asks them.

My favourite Canadian acts that don't play frosh weeks(afaik) and are still active(afaik):

Arcade Fire
The New Pornographers
Broken Social Scene
Wolf Parade
  Sunset Rubdown
Japandroids
 The Rural Alberta Advantage
Crystal Castles
 Islands
Caribou
Junior Boys
The Weakerthans
Owen Pallett (formerly Final Fantasy)
Holy F-U-C-K
Plants and Animals
Lightning Dust
Tegan and Sara
Born Ruffians
Ohbijou

Can non-McMaster students get into the concert for $15 too?
And do they look at your MacPass when you go in? For example I have a friend who is unable to go that night, could he give it to another student and that person get in or no is there ID?
