Yay, Comp Sci and Software Eng. students
I just had a question about first year, what exactly do you do? Is it hard to learn Java by yourself without teacher help?

Have you done any programming whatsoever before?

I wouldn't consider HTML as a language, but I have used HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript/C++/Java and a bit of Visual Basic.

Alright, so I'm assuming then you understand the basics.
Are you starting this September? I recommend looking around online for tutorials and stuff on the object-oriented paradigm and learn as much as you can before school starts. From what I can see through others in my program, that concept tends to be the hardest for people to grasp.

I never got accepted yet from McMaster. They're waiting on the midterm marks for the majority of people in the Peel District School Board area. I plan to either attend Mac or Loo and thanks for the advice. I'll look into it, any links would be appreciated.

After a quick google search, this seems like a good start.

I would suggest learning the basics of OO programming first, then focus on generalized concepts (classes, methods, constructors, for/while/do loops, if statements, try/catch, etc.). If you can get those, your pretty much good to go! I also suggest looking into pointers, linkedlists, hashtables, etc if you cover the basics. Not only will those give you an advanced understanding of Java, but you will be able to create much more efficient programs
