I find that to be true and a previous comment.
I'm going to stick with NetBeans

If you say so. Eclipse is typically the IDE of choice because it has plugins for basically every other programming language in existence, as well as many other useful tools like SVN.

I've used SVN with NetBeans bud
Needed to use it for a school project, it was easy to use.

just finished first year... erm what you need to know next year.. i think they changing the language to Python.. that is 1MD3.. and then you have 1FC3 thats your two comp sci classes.. fc3 deals with boolean logic and computational calculus ... also 3 maths .. which are brutal.. the rest u get to pick what classes u want to take

The three maths aren't that bad. I got a 10 in 1ZA3 and a 6 in 1ZB3 ( ), still waiting on 1ZC3. As for 1MD3 I got a 12, and waiting on 1FC3 as well. 1FC3 was pretty difficult though IMO. And yes the professor last semester in 1MD3 did say they're switching to Python I believe, but the course really wasn't about Java anyway.

Nothing really wrong with Python. It's epic for scripting :p.

Oh and just for reference on those math marks, in Grade 12 I had a 71 in Adv. Functions and a 68 in Calc/Vec I was a little surprised I got into a university at all considering how little effort I put in in high school. But yea, obviously you don't need to have been some math whiz in high school to do decently well in first year Eng. math - at least in my opinion.

That sounds comforting :]
I got 72 in Advanced Functions for my final mark, but I attained 86% in Calc&Vectors for Midterms, yay.

The mathematics you'll encounter in computer science will be of a different sort than the engineering students see. You'll share calculus (i.e. 'continuous mathematics') and linear algebra (and I think you have to take stats for math), but most mathematics for computing is some sort of 'discrete' mathematics. You'll be doing more 'math' (as a math major sees it) than an engineering student, as they will do calculations, etc., while you'll work more on proofs etc., even implicitly in your non-math courses.

I would say that computer science is a more mathematical discipline than the engineering disciplines. It's not the standard math everyone's used to, of course.
