Applications for residence life staff
Anyone know the procedure? I can find information for the past two years, but nothing for this year- am I too early?
I don't want to, you know, miss something mandatory! Anyone have any helpful info?

Applications aren't available yet. They should be available sometime in December, probably halfway through. They will be due mid January I believe. There will be more information about the deadlines once the applications come out.
Check the following link frequently to find out more info once the applications come out. It will say "Residence Life Staff" or "Community Advisor" (I forgot) under Student Leadership Opportunities on the right.

It really depends. You will need to have a lot of patience, make some sacrifices (going out less, less sleep, etc.) and good time management among other things. You also have to remember that you have a great responsibility. That's all I can really say since I have never been a Community Advisor. I have lots of friends that are Community Advisors right now though. My Community Advisor told me to apply last year and I planned on doing it but I didn't want to take on such a responsibility in my second year so I didn't apply. I wanted to become a Welcome Week rep instead.

You can also consider running for an IRC position if you want to be involved in residence an extra year. It's a different experience from the CAs but you never have to be the 'bad guy' and write anyone up.

How do you become an IRC rep? What's the process?

Hey,
Applications will be going out sometime soon, so just keep an eye out for them. As for what makes a good CA, there is actually no right answer. I can honestly just say to be yourself and have fun. Yeah there are times when you're up really late, but this is my first year as a CA and I'm loving it. The connections you make with students makes it worthwhile (yes I know that was a little corney but its true). I'd encourage you to talk to the CA's in your building and ask them, I guarantee they will all give you different answers, but most likely the common response will be there is no definite criteria of what makes a good CA

Anyone know how many CA's there actually are?
I mean, for huge buildings like Brandon, is it 1 per floor? 11 for over 500 people seems kind of crazy.

depends on how mnay students per floor, most likely you'll have 2 to a floor unless you're a single CA, but the number of students on your floor will be significantly less

It really depends on the building. Usually it's two Community Advisors per floor, but there are floors with only one Community Advisor. It depends on the size of the floor. Brandon Hall I believe has nineteen Community Advisors, one House Program Advisor and one House Community Advisor.
Edit: Ronak beat me to the post...lol
