How to apply for jobs over e-mail
Hey, so... I've been looking for a job for a while now and there's finally some postings for some places, but a lot of them say to submit your resume over e-mail.

What's the etiquette for these types of things?

Do you introduce yourself with just your name or do you go into more detail?

Who do you address if it doesn't specify?

What do you say?

Do you do like a mini cover letter type thing in the email?

etc.

my sister is an HR manager so she gave me advice about this...

make a cover letter and resume as an attachment (together as one attachment)
put the job description and then in brackets the job posting number

and in the email you can simply say something like "Please accept my cover letter and resume attached in consideration for the job posting (#) on (insert website. I look forward to hearing from you.

It might help to use your MUSS email and not a hotmail/gmail account when sending those things.

it wouldn't really matter as long as your hotmail account is appropriate.... If its not then it would definately matter haha

Do you mean in the subject of the email?

Edit: if anyone's got more advice, feel free to shout it out. Waiting in a few replies before sending anything out... wanna see what the general consensus is.

Whenever I've applied to a job via e-mail, I've always included a "mini cover letter" in the text of the e-mail. Just sort of highlight the key points from your cover letter (why you're applying, what you can bring, etc) in very brief form. Charbs is right that you should probably put the job title and posting number in the subject line, especially if it's a larger organization.

Also, make sure you read the posting carefully, because they may have specific instructions somewhere in there in some cases.

If you're looking at a job on OSCAR, the posting number on the far left is of little to no use to employers. It's OSCAR's identifier for the job posting. If an employer has a posting number, it will be listed somewhere in the posting itself.

I know tons of people who do it this exact same way. Seems to work for them
