Just wrote this yesterday. Check it out. I don't know much about the nursing program but most likely they probably don't need any. Short answer is any.

I just finished the nursing program and I used a MacBook for all four years - so did a lot of other people. It worked totally fine and the only program I added was Word for my own ease. When we did the statistics course, they wanted us to use the SPSS program for data but for that one semester, I went to the computer lab and used the program there. In all honestly, I went to the lab twice because the program was not mandatory and the tutorials would give you the answers to any homework questions the next week that required using SPSS.
So to answer your question, there is not specific type of computer that you need for nursing. Pick one that you like and that you hope will last you for the four years without breaking! Good luck!!

A Macbook is a bit over-powered, but its lasting enough that you'd probably enjoy it the most. If you just have a 1 year (3 semester?) program, you can get through fairly well with an acer/hp/asus/lenovo costing about ~600$, netbook preferable.
Depending on the time of day you go, its possible to entirely go without a laptop if you do all your work at the library (open 830am to 7pm; it can be pretty busy from 11ap-4pm though) but its a bit inconvenient if you want to work on school stuff at home.

Don't get a macbook out of pure ignorance. Although the things won't ever fail, they're very specific and can be a pain at certain things.
Macbooks are extremely expensive for what you're getting. Try sites like newegg.ca and tigerdirect.ca these places are one of the best to get computer parts/full computers, and they ship right to you.
Building your own desktop gets you best bang for your buck....keep in mind that Laptops are never a real substitute for a full desktop accompanied by a beautiful keyboard(full size!) and mouse.
Laptop use is relevant to the person you are and how you take notes, I never found a use for my laptop in class, but I work on the internet so having a laptop was a priority to be able to work wherever I am.

Just grab an ultrabook. They're very lightweight, have awesome battery life, and are very fast due to the SSD. I like the ASUS Zenbook Prime and Macbook Air.
