The redsuits do a good job at welcoming everyone. Encourage everyone to be active, make friends socialize. Although it is good, it is important to realize not everyone appreciates it. Club or go out? They say go out. Some people are just not comfortable with that. Then add on social peer pressure. That's the only flaw I see else they are excellent

There's a large shift away from that with the majority of the reps. I'm not sure what you mean by "Club or go out? They say go out." But while I am not one to apply social peer pressure to go out an get tanked because "It's cool, yo", I'm 110% for going out and being social, regularly. It's where you destress, unwind, and meet the most important people of the rest of your life. No student ever met a future career opportunity/connection while they sat in their rooms playing video games. {disclaimer: I can't speak for software and game design}

No student ever learned how to deal with the difficult social situations which plague professionals in every career field, while chained to their desk for 4 years, studying for the top marks in the class.

No student ever obtained dozens upon dozens of resources in the form of experienced upper year undergraduates, while they stayed in their dorm every weekend, drinking with roommates and other resident partiers... No. This won't get you anywhere.

Most (but I'll admit, not all) eng reps who push people to go out, are pushing people to step out of their shell and obtain all these wonderful resources and connections/opportunities. Many of us were pushed out of very soft, tender shells ourselves, and never would have seen ourselves in these representative roles when we started University. Granted, not every rep stays on the correct side of everyone's boundaries when they're trying to push boundaries... Every other rep group does the same (if they do anything at all...)

They give out a lot of 'advice' on how you should study/work, when a lot of them have low averages. It's in general all terrible advice.

He's pretty much got the all the things I wish someone had told me before first year engineering.

LOL, wrong. Many (read: majority) are highly involved with marks in the top of their classes.

Their advice is exactly as I said it, and it's just as helpful academically.

Yeah I think our year just had "disagreeable" reds.

Yea, fun fact: Unlike some other faculty's who often have to take any and every person that applies to them (no matter the department), the engineering rep crowd is never short of engineering applicants...

I'd say that we're doing something right.

All the engineering reps are in engineering, even the females *gasp* *shock*! You get a wide range of us, from people who are super smart, to people who aren't as smart. In general, we try and give good advice, but we are only human.

Anyway, to ignore the massive flamefest that is the macinsiders forums at its best, the best advice is to know how to balance yourself. If you party too much, and don't do any work (or get involved in too many clubs and don't do any work), then you're going to fail, obviously. What's a bit less obvious is that if all you do is work and study, and don't take any time to relax and have fun, you will burn out, fail, and be miserable. Oh, and make the most of your frosh week, it will be one of the most memorable weeks of your life. I promise.
