Tips:
  • Don't be negative
  • Do all your assignments
  • Stop partying( if u r)
  • Attend all the lectures
  • Take engineering seriously
  • And ofcourse, don't aim for the minimum(4.0)
Engineering is certainly not easy and you have to give it a lot of time.

I have heard you can retake 2 courses if fail, but I would go to Sally williams and ask her about how that works, asap.

Definitively visit your undergrad advisors. They would be the most helpful for your situation.

Also, the tips that Kanishka gave are good ones. I would like to add to not over work. Although studying is how you learn, it is important to take breaks. Allow the information to sink in. It's a lot easier to move 10 boxes one at a time through the door than to try and jam all 10 through at the same time

I knew a guy that had a similar crises, so bad he wanted to switch out. Went to Sally and she convinced him to stay in. Long story short he kept at it and made the average. Definitely go talk to Sally. The problem with failing and retaking it in summer school is the 0 doesn't go away. So if you fail a 3 unit course and take it again it adds to your total course load and when they calculate your average it takes into account the zero. So if your on the border of a 4.0 most people have to take other courses to boost. My buddy failed Physics 1D03 and took in summer school but had to take Engineer 1C03 again to help boost his average. Its been said but keep to the tips.

Study study study! (but to a certain extent)

If you live in res, go to the study rooms nights before the tests, and you will almost definitely see others also studying the same thing. work together, do questions, answer each others problems, and pass together

Go to classes you need. IE, the first few months of math for me were absolutely pointless, since I know what a derivative was. I'd rather do questions/sample tests than go to class and sleep through it since I knew the material. I also almost never attended 1P03, but I did the assignments, project, and wrote the exam and still got a 7(after getting trashed on the exam). Figure out what you need to go to, and make sure you stay up on your work.

Also, don't do all your work all the time if you can't. I stopped doing that and my marks went up drastically once I started studying specifically for tests/assignments and let other things pile up a bit till they were needed. You may not be like me, but most people I know stopped attending what they considered useless classes, doing every question, and did better as a result of having more time to study for the subject at hand while at school.

BTW, math help center, the physics and chem TAs in Thode are extremely useful.
