Bob Bratina Wins Mayor of Hamilton

It's official, Bob Bratina Wins Mayor of Hamilton and will be our mayor for the next 4 years.

Via The Spec:

The downtown councillor has garnered 37.95 per cent of the vote with 72.5 per cent of votes counted. Larry Di Ianni is in second place with 28 per cent and Eisenberger is in third place with 26 per cent.

He grabbed an early lead at the polls, with the first reports putting him solidly in front of Eisenberger and Di Ianni. The first cheers broke out at his campaign headquarters at about 8:30 p.m. when supporters saw Bratina out in front of the race.

Bratina’s win means Hamilton will be revisiting the thorny issue of de-amalgamation.

His platform was the slimmest of all three top contenders, with promises to address poverty issues, recognize seniors, promote the development of the north industrial corridor, and encourage private/public partnerships to develop the waterfront.

Great. Now if midterms hadn't momentarily consumed my life I might actually know who that is!

Not exactly sure that's the best mayoral qualification, but I'm in no position to argue. Congrats to Mayor Bob!

I'll be honest here. I don't really care who won this election.

Aslong as this mayor doesn't make Hamilton any worse for my 4ish years here, i don't really mind who it is. So Congrats to the winner.

Apperently this dude was against a project that will try to expend the city which in turn would increase taxes. Sounds good. if hes elected..

I voted for him cause my mom made me. lol But I actually knew who Bob was, I listened to him on the radio every day for the past few years. He's a very opinionated guy, speaks his mind a lot and knows his Hamilton stuff. My mom is a big fan. City council doesn't really like him though.

One of the many reasons why democracy is a joke.

If he goes through with the de-amalgamation idea he's been putting forth, I'll love it. Finally Ancaster won't have to be a part of this junkpile we call Hamilton again.

Four people in my family could have voted. No one did. We don't care, really.

I really don't like Bratina's stance on deamalgamation, I dont like his flip-flopping on the stadium issue (at least Eisenberger was solidly for West Harbour), and I really don't like his flakiness on LRT (the idea that it might go to the airport instead of to Mac). He basically had the weakest platform out of the top three, and I think he only won by populist rhetoric targeted at angry old people... (same way Rob Ford won in Toronto)

Despite what you guys say, there were differences between the candidates if you bothered enough to look for them.

Im really angered by the disdain being shown for Democracy here. You had 15 different people to vote for, covering virtually every corner of the political spectrum....if you think there's not enough options, your insane. The right to choose who leads you is something that should be incredibly valued. The fact that you are showing such disregard for a right that our ancestors died for, and millions around the world continue to die for, quite frankly disgusts me.

Why don't you move to North Korea or Saudi Arabia, stay a year, and come back and tell me democracy is a joke.
