So our friend Huzaifa went through the suggestion box that was set up nearby the Travel Cuts and he discovered the top 3 suggestions.
1. McDonalds
2. LCBO
3. Strip Club
I think Starbucks was nearby as well but anyways, thoughts?

People are stupid and their opinons should be automatically disqualified.
What should be put there is a unique, local shop, not another corporate thing... starbucks, timmies, lcbo, booster juice, and mcdicks? Really? More of the same? Put something independant, universally wanted by students, and beneficial to them.. we don't need more food places.

An LCBO in that location would be so small that their range of products would be laughable, ie not worth it. The fact that strip club was on the list should show that people aren't taking this seriously.. McDonalds? I may be biased as a vegetarian but I feel like this is a pretty sub-par option. McDonalds isn't quality anything

IMHO, something like Bridges but in the Student Centre would be awesome. And by 'like Bridges', I mean 100% Veg. Makes it a nice option for lunch without having to worry about animal products being in the mix.

So another idea is this thing called grocery checkout. At Western and recently Queens they have set up a grocery store (click for pics) it sells produce, canned goods ice cream at Western I believe some deli options as well. They also offer a service for students to order groceries online and have them delivered to your house.
Thoughts?

Yeah, I've seen that at Western. I thought that it was commonplace and was disappointed when I found out that Mac didn't have one. I'd use it for sure if Mac had one.

Space might be an issue though.
Question though: Other than the fact that they were businesses that could afford the space, WHY do/did we have services like travel cuts and that photo place in the student centre? Like really... a travel place? Ugh :S

I agree ^ If the photo place is pretty much only for grad pics whats the point of it being in the student center? It doesnt even take passport photos that would benefit more people. Grad pics are only for graduates, whats there for the rest of the McMaster population?
Relocate the photo place and free up the space.

To be honest with you those spaces, the pharmacy, travel cuts and Life Touch were established because they were willing to pay rent. Now that Travel Cuts has left and the space is available for a new vendor we can ensure that what ever goes in there really does benefit students.
The issue with moving spaces around is that these vendors have lease agreements and so they can't just be closed on a whim. Regardless I am glad to hear that you like the Grocery Checkout concept, what are your feelings on the pharmacy? I always saw that as a very useful service but I am curious how you all feel.

The pharmacy is the only one out of those 3 that I have used in the past. That can remain, is there a reason why the photo place offers very limited services? I noticed the sign they posted saying they do not do passport photos; so im assuming they had many people come to them to get that done. DO you know why they have not implemented that service as well?

Grocery Checkout + some over the counter medications + longer hours is exactly what I was referring to in that post. Something run by students, to cut down the prices would be nice. And the reason I suggest fresh fruit and longer hours is because it's a healthier option than fast food or something frozen, or worse, ridiculously expensive packaged fruit
