Would an 85-86% be a decent shot at kin guys? I also got into sciences at mac, BUT I also got into Kin at york, and I loved the open house and the labs, courses, etc. I am trying to get the best of both by going to kin at mac. is 85.5 to 86% worth trying?

As far as I know, the cut-off to get into Kin was a little bit higher than Life Sci (1-2% maybe). That being said, if you got into Life Sci, it doesn't hurt to try getting into Kin.

Did they mention what faculty would be offering the courses? That would make it much easier to find them.

I assume the faculty of Science, since both kin and life sci are part of that faculty.

I know others have been saying you can take 3Y03, however in the undergrad calendar for 2011-2012, 3Y03 is now restricted to those who have taken 1F03.

http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /CALEN...12/pg1808.html

edit: there are no nutrition courses for life sci, what they may have been referring to is biochem 3N03 - human nutrition but this is very different from 1f03 or 3y03.

lol i find pre-reqs are just really stupid in some cases. i know they're for good reason (i.e. limiting number of students), but it sucks how it limits the courses we're allowed to take.

The cut-off for kin last year was an 87%.
You can't take a kin course unless you're in kin.

You can take kin 1A03/1AA3, just under the course codes 1Y03/1YY3.

Oh mine.. that just bursted my bubbles
when i compared courses offered both in kin and in life sci i think they are both really interesting, but the nutrition courses offered in kin really pulls me over. However, my concern is that if i were to go to kin, i might need to do summer schools in order to fulfil my science prerequisites for professional schools.

Considering that I'm taking calculus, chemistry, physic, and biology [4U] and will not be needing any introductory courses in year 1, will i have enough space to fill me my science and math electives in school year? And if so, do you think it would be too much workload to handle? lol, i know i should probably check the mac website to see the elective spaces and stuff, and i probably will, but i just want you guy's opinion on this. THANKS!!!

You still need to take most intro courses if you're planning on going into Level II Science. Which ones, however, depend on which program you want to specialize into. Check out the Undergraduate Calendar for second year programs, to get an idea on which intro courses you actually need. Bio and Chem are almost definitely 4 of them (2 each).

Almost every Life Sci student takes Calc and the 3 sciences in high school; it wont give you any advantage in terms of taking less courses. First year your schedule is going to look almost identical to every other life sci. I would recommend looking at the second year programs for science if you want to make a decision on whether to go into kin or life sci.

Thanks, i will definitely look into some of the second year specializations. If not kin, I would probably try applying for biochem the 2nd year since i really like chem : )

Btw, if u don't mind me asking, how did u felt about 1st year life sci? As in workloads, profs and etc?

It was really good overall. The courses I liked were really enjoyable and I actually liked going to lectures and the courses I hated were almost impossible to stay awake through. The good thing is that you find out pretty quickly what you don't like. I probably could've guessed I would hate evolution and ecology but taking the course (required for life sci) just confirmed it. I don't think I had any professor that wasn't intelligent, but some were better teachers than others. The workload compared to high school for me was heavier around midterms/exams and almost non-existent the rest of the year. Spreading my work out is definitely something I need to work on
