you need a pulse membership inorder to use the climbing wal without additional fees, but i think there are also rates to use it without the membership,

are you sure about that? have you actually done it cus from what i see thats the fee for the belay classes which you need tot ake if you are not accustomed to belaying.

also i got a pulse membership last year but i never found the time to go in the climbing wall hours and actually do it.... does anyone know the kind of belay technique you are required to know. ( and by this i mean like is it single person where you wrap the rope around your waist and support that way, or is there like a post/gear mech thing..) ... yea that sounds a bit awk but if uve done climbing i think ull be able to figure out what im asking.

No, I haven't done it at mac. I was just looking into it aswell and came across that price, but yeah, now it makes more sense that that would be for the belay classes lol duh. Sorry!

I'm not sure if you can get the climbing wall without a pulse membership. They use grigris attached to the floor to belay - so you need to know how to tie yourself in and belay with those. They supply you with harnesses and rock climbing shoes. If you don't know how to belay, you can get someone else to belay you the first couple times, but they ask that you take the course to learn yourself if you want to keep going. You can also go and boulder whenever. i think the summer hours are 4-9 pm tues-thurs, 4-8 friday, and 12-4 (possibly later?) sunday. and it's a ton of fun!

You need to buy a pulse membership in order to use the climbing wall. The $19 is only to sign you up for a belay school if you can't pass the belaying test.

bouldering here is just climbing without a rope attached to you. You shouldn't climb higher than the 4th panel. You can do whatever you want, but specific routes are marked out in coloured tape. They start at holds with 'V' shaped tape on them, and then you try to get to the other V at the end of the route by only using holds with the same colour tape.

You can try climbing the walls in your house so that its free it will also make you feel like spiderman. Try placing rocks in your wall and then maybe your spidy sense would kick in. No need for membership at Macs wall thing. That's what I would do. Think about it.

Anyone with any doubts on going to the climbing wall should erase those doubts! The wall is a ton of fun and has a great community. The wall requires you to have a pulse membership though. Bouldering is climbing without being attached to the rope, and most commonly features difficult moves to help you improve when you do go up with the rope.

You need a Pulse Membership to use the Feather Family (Indoor) Climbing Wall. Student Memberships are $119 for 8 months (hst included). An opportunity to test it out is our Departments open house --> TRY MAC week (September 17-23) where you can try the Pulse and a variety of instructional classes for Free!

More info to come soon.
