Commuting from Toronto to MAC
Hi I'm a first year master student from Toronto. Not to familar with the commutin routes with the Go Bus, Grey Hound and etc..

I'm looking for the cheapest method to get back into Toronto from Mac U. What are my options interms of public transit?
How much does it cost per a trip?

Just looking to travell back on Fridays and Return from toronto to Hamilton (Sunday night or early monday morning)

GO bus is likely the cheapest. The Mac to York U bus is $84.25 for a student 10-ride ticket. To go downtown, you'd have to take the Hamilton GO centre to Union station bus (slightly cheaper, like $80 for a student 10-ride).

Close enough >_>

On average though these are the fares for the GO Bus which I think is your best way of commuting (which I'll be doing as well on the weekends):
Adult single-ride ticket $8.65
Adult two-ride ticket $17.30
Adult day pass $17.30
Adult 10-ride ticket $80.00
Adult monthly pass $285.00
Senior or Child single-ride ticket $4.35
Senior or Child two-ride ticket $8.70
Senior or Child day pass $8.70
Senior or Child 10-ride ticket $43.25
Senior or Child monthly pass $173.00
Student 10-ride ticket $73.50
Student monthly pass $225.00
Group pass $34.60

You could get on the GO bus at Main and Dundurn if you don't want to go all the way to Hamilton GO Station. There are days and times where you would have the stand the entire way to Union though.

Me too, I wish the QEW bus that leaves from Hamilton GO left from Mac instead :(. But the bus-train route (Lakeshore West) is really not that bad. And the train is more comfortable than the bus.

I would suggest taking the Lakeshore West GO bus/train route, I take this route from Burlington to Mac and back everyday. The GO bus from Mac goes to either Aldershot or Burlington GO, depending on the time of day you take it, and then from there you transfer to the train which goes right through to Union. You can look up the cost on the GO transit website using the fare calculator.

I totally agree. the train is way more comfortable, and takes you to union, if that's what you need.
i used to take it, as a daily commuter from mississauga, and it wasnt bad at all.

just maybe another option for you..?

well alot of students dont have driving license or there dont have rich parents to buy them fancy cars or they cant afford the car. So they take GO.

Some people like to go home every week, others don't like to go home at all. It's entirely preference. First year course load isn't that bad in my opinion. Plus if you know how to manage your time properly then you can go home every week despite the 2-4 hour commute every weekend.

I'd use the train from union to hamilton go, then use your student card bus pass to get you the rest of the way... even if it costs more than the bus (I don't think so?) the QEW express is frigging crowded early in the morning, and not to mention a hassel to deal with compared to the nice wonderful train.

It's the same price. I'm the opposite, whenever I go to McMaster I take the QEW since it stops at Columbia College and my house is in Westdale so it's a short walk. But to go back I take the bus/train because it's on campus XD
