Complicated SOLAR/class full problem..
My problem is kind of complicated, so I'll try to make it as simple as possible.
I'm in third year.
In second year, I dropped a course in February. Which means I need to take an extra course this year to make up for it.
In early June, I went to the Social Science office to talk to an academic advisor. I had a lot of questions, one of them being "Since I need to take an extra course this year, will SOLAR let me take 33 units, or will it stop me like usual at 30 units?" My academic advisor told me "It will automatically let you take 33 units".
It didn't.
I was only allowed to take 30 units. I got into ALL the classes I wanted, except one (because I couldn't take the extra course). Since you only have 7 days from your initial course selection to change your courses because you're locked out, I was in contact with the Social Science office via email. This took FOREVER - it was literally on the seventh day when they told me the problem was fixed.
(I would have gone into the office in person, but since I work 2 jobs, I didn't have the option of spending an entire day waiting to see an advisor).
Because this took so long, the last class I want is full. I would easily switch to another class, but my schedule is so jam-packed that nothing else will fit (sadly, I'm not exaggerating. Nothing else will fit). I literally have only 2 options to choose from, one of them being a second year class and the other being a third year class. They are both full (I check like 3 times a day on SOLAR).
My question is: I've been suggested by my friends to ask the Social Science office to stick me in the class I want, even though it's full. It is an elective, but it's not my fault I wasn't able to take it. It's a big class, so if I had been able to choose it on the day SOLAR opened for me, I probably would have got in. Should I ask an advisor to squeeze me in the class, or would this be a waste of time and I'll get a big "no" ?
(Sorry it's so long!)
