Every... Single... Class... Full...?
So I decided after trying for 2 hours last night to swear at MUGSI/SOLAR then log off for the night. I woke up this morning and every single elective course I want to take is full. Even Kin 1Y03... I need the kin classes this year and then I just need the other courses to get 10 courses... I'm sitting at 6/10 courses and those are the courses that are required...
Will this change or am I forever screwed?

Well for the next week you can keep checking, then after they open it up again you can check somemore (to see if some people dropped the course and left a seat for you). But with some more popular courses its really hard to get in, last year I wanted French 1A06, which filled up right away, and i kept checking and it was always full, and even up until the last possible day to drop/add (in september or october??) i still couldnt get in.

Courses that are required to complete your degree have exceptions. If they are showing up as full, you can contact your academic advisor or better yet, go to your faculty office and ask them directly to help you. They will 'open up a seat' for you, and/or create more space in the course so you can try again.
Elective courses, however, or courses that aren't required, if they are full you're usually out of luck... however, you can try checking back each day as sometimes courses get more seats opened, or if they notice they are popular they sometimes open a whole new section up. And/or, students may drop the course in which case you can then pick up their spot.

What happens in the case that you are trying to get an elective that is towards your minor degree?

If you are trying to get an elective that will go towards your minor you will just have to keep checking solar to see if a spot opens up. They won't open a spot for you.

I guess you're also out of luck if you need a class for graduate school. I doubt McMaster cares about that.

Jeremy said in another thread that they* are more lenient and likely to let you in if the course is necessary for graduate school - but only if this is your last year before you need to apply.

some departments such as math do are actually good about that. When I wanted to take math 1aa3 in the second year, it was full but they opened up a seat for me when I requested it.

Unfortunately, if you need the courses for a minor, they wont do anything for you and tell you to wait till aug to see if somebody has dropped it.

That sucks man...
Maybe just take a ton of random language courses this year for fun? haha
Or do some science courses, science courses are cool!

Haha, I'm taking a couple anthropology courses and I'm not even in social sciences anymore.
And I figured about the electives & graduate school thing, I'll have to wait until 4th year to actually get Kin, when it's a first year class. How lovely.

You are forever screwed. Welcome to Mac my friend. Welcome to my life. It sucks. The chances of getting in know are just slim to none. Good Luck, I know I'll need it.

If you require a course to get your degree you're seeking (it isn't an elective course where you have a choice to take something else that may be open) then usually exceptions can be made so that you satisfy your course requirements. Just because a course is showing up as full does not mean it's full forever.

i had the same problem with kin 1y03/kin 1yy3 last year. i really wanted to take it, but it was always full on solar.
keep trying, but if you dont get in, wait until classes start in september and try again. i know that when *I* went back on solar in september, BOTH kin courses were available.
some people switch out of classes after school starts, so you might find that classes open up then. at least for me they did...
good luck!
