Computer Engineering Acceptances?
Hey,
I am currently in grade 12 and iv been stressing since my average first semester didn't meat McMaster's cut off
The cut off is 87% and my average was close to 84%

I had my mainly difficult courses and no spare first semester, and am expecting to raise the average second semester.
But my question is, when does McMaster give out most of their offers for engineering?

Im worried most spots will be filled out before i get my midterm marks for second semester which is end of april, and my chance would be decreased significantly.

Also, on the website it says that the average of top 6 will be taken with Calculus, Physics, Chem, English and then it just says "students are expected to have completed advanced functions"
Does this mean they won't account for advanced functions in my average, and take my other 2 electives instead along with the 4 courses which they are asking for?

They'll take your Calc, Physics, Chem & English marks into account for your top 6. Besides that from your other courses, they will take the top 2. If Advanced Functions is one of them, then sure that'll be used. If not, then it won't.

Your advanced functions mark will be calculated. So essentially you only have 1 course that can be any course you want. And I had an 87.2 % average last year while the cutoff was 87 and i still didnt get accepted until after my midterm marks. A majority of engineering acceptances dont get sent out till later into 2nd semester so you dont have to worry. Just try very hard to bring your other marks now so your average is high enough to get accepted.

if advanced functions mark counts, why is it listed separately like that?

I have 2 other courses besides the mandatory 4 which they will consider, so they can still take those 2 instead along with the main 4 instead of my advanced functions right?

They just want you to have good foundation for 1st and 2nd year maths in engineering...
I wouldn't worry man, first semester of 2012, I had 82-83% average but I retook chem 2nd semester, and worked really hard for biology and english, and data management and pulled myself up to a 90%... I was worried I was not going to get in to mac eng.... But look what happened
My motto, do the best and forget the rest

They'll take the 6 highest. In most cases, this includes Advanced Functions as it was probably the easiest of all the grade 12 maths, but in the off-chance that it wasn't one of your higher marks, it won't be considered. (e.g. if you did better in Bio and Data Management than Advanced Functions)

Back in my day, you only needed a 78-80 to get into Eng. :(
