Been together a while, think it's okay.
I think this thread should get stickied because it's hilarious to read.

Actually, they sent out e-mail surveys to students with the incentive of a $200 gift certificate at titles.
And it was run by public health services, not church groups.
One of the issues was that it was sent to mcmaster.ca e-mail accounts and many students don't actually check their e-mail addresses.

She wasn't saying that church groups actually ran it. She's saying that the sample size is too small for it to be truly representative of the student population.
I don't think she needed an explanation as to how surveys work.

Her statement seemed to suggest that the data wasn't collected properly or was in a biased manner. I was just clarifying how this particular study was conducted in case anyone was curious.
According to the statistical analysis of the survey, the data was statistically significant. Unfortunately due to the limitations of the study (using mcmaster e-mail accounts), it was difficult to get a larger response from students. I would agree though, the larger the better.

It doesn't mean that anyone should take the stats hands down. The point is valid: a sample size of 200 students could still be very easily biased
Example: I could go to the Muslim Students Association, the largest club on campus, and get a sample size similar to what is presented in the survey results. Statistically, it would come up "significant", but that doesn't mean it's truly representative.
It's easy to lie with stats.

Did you know that 59% of all statistics given are false?

There would be no point in trying to skew the results of the survey as it was mostly for health promotion educators. The STI/contraceptives workshop that I went to for training was problem one of the most modern that I've seen in a while.
For this particular survey, they e-mailed students randomly (ensuring that all years and programs were covered).

So I was sneaking around the admin office, and heard that the condom companies sponsored 72.9% of the surveys.
Food for thought.
Deep.
