Does SOLAR pick up on your conflicts right now?

Because it just okayed me for a course whose lectures conflict with those of one of my required courses...

Sectioning isn't done 'til August, so even if your course only has one core section and it conflicts with another, you won't be notified until sectioning's done.

I think they do that 'cause the Master Timetable's still somewhat tentative in the sense that if they really wanted to change something, they still could.

it usually does prevent you from doing that even before sectioning... I tried to sign up for 2 classes that were both Term 2 Tuesday night and SOLAR wouldn't let me. neither class has any prerequisites

SOLAR usually shows conflicts right now if you don't have the prerequisites filled. Just make your mock timetable before you go in, and you won't have any problems.
