A Couple of Questions on Course Reserves
Hey guys,

I have been browsing my posted course outlines for this year and a couple profs are opting for course reserves over custom coursewares. I've only ever had to check out a reserve once previously so I know that it is a two hour limit and whatnot. What I wasn't sure is, are you allowed to take the reserve outside of the library? Say if I wanted to take it to read outside or in another quiet place (I find Mills in Sept-Oct. a nightmare). Also, I'm assuming they are fair game for photocopying?

oh and before I forget, are teachers required to have a copy of their text available in the library or is that just a preference option.

It depends on the reserve type:

Quote:
Reserve Types
  • 2-Hour Loan - Loan period is 2 hours. May be borrowed overnight. Use if whole class must read and for all larger courses.
  • 24-Hour - Loan period is 24 hours. Use for small classes or for materials which do not have to be read by a number of students within a short period of time.
  • 7-Day Loan - Loan Period is 7 days.
  • e-Reserves - Provides direct access links to e-articles and e-books. Electronic format is preferred in Reserve due to access and speed of processing.
Professors aren't required to reserve the textbook for their students at the library. I think most textbooks are available at the library though.
