Questions!!!
Hi I am Pinakin. My background is in electrical engineering with specializing in power production and utilities. I have a daughter who studies in Grade 11 in Toronto. She is very much inclined towards taking mediciane as a future career. She is a very brilliant students scoring 90% on average.
> If possible, I want to share your experience about getting admissions in the universities, selection criteria for choosing university for getting admission in the medical school and your preferences for the selection.
Prerequisites according to your experience for medical aschool admissions
Note: Universities offer life science or health science, which one is preferrable for getting admission into medical school?

Hi there,

Not being a student in the sciences or health sci and not interested in med school what-so-ever, I don't have a heck of a lot to offer you...But I can suggest your daughter read these two articles:
http://www.macinsiders.com/showthread.php?t=1891 6
http://www.macinsiders.com/showthread.php?t=1858 6

This is another article that may also prove useful: http://talentegg.ca/incubator/2009/0...ld-you-choose/

Schools vary in terms of requirements, averages and the like, so if she is interested in med school she should look at each med school to determine what they require.

Also, you don't need a degree in any kind of science to go to med school. All you need to do is complete a bunch of required courses (sciences mostly; but this depends on schools). One of my good friends has a degree in English and a minor in Art History and is in her first year of med school.

As for first year experiences, there are a bunch of articles for your daughter and yourself below. (almost) All are written by MacInsiders users and talk about their experiences in first year:

http://www.macinsiders.com/showthread.php?t=1880 4

That should keep you two busy for awhile...

for admission to university, i think life science is generally high 80's for acceptance, and health sci is usually up in the 90's. i can't really say much about the med school aspect because i am in first year, but both health and life science are possible routes for acceptance to med school.

If you have the money, send her to an American school, some of them have programs that offer guaranteed admission into med school if they have a very high SAT scores and GPA. I know one such school: Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan (its not too expensive either...around $ 11K per year)

Technically if you are looking into Canadian Medical Schools all programs are possible routes to get into medical school.
