about course selection
For the course selection, on the date that it says that solar opens for specific level, you have 7 days to register, correct?
And i actually didn't register through solar during that 7 day period because of some personal reason, so i did the late registration.
I heard that it was very hard to get into Solar due to sheer number of people trying to get into Solar. Could you guys give me an idea of how bad it is? Is it like impossible to get within like first couple hours?

You don't have a seven-day period in which to register; you can register at any point after the time at which it opens (provided SOLAR isn't totally closed at the time). But once you do register, you have seven days before you are locked out.

so then since the 4th and 5th year gets to start first, is that why it's hard for lower levels to get the courses they want?

Yep, it's a possibility. They might be doing that because the 4th years are finishing up and need to graduate on time, but everyone else has more time to take the courses.

It's part of the reason, but not the full reason.

Especially for first-years, the number of 4th and 5th years taking first year courses is relatively small.

Also, many courses have allotted a certain proportion of seats to people in different faculties or years. If you're a first year trying to get into a course than allots X seats to first years and Y seats to upper years, it doesn't matter that upper year students can pick courses first.

But I do think that the biggest reason they have it like this is what Jim said; people in 4th/5th year only get one more chance to take the courses they want/need.

his question has been answered 5 times already. why do you feel the need to spam every thread just repeating what everyone else has said? are you that desperate for a moderator position or something

Getting in to SOLAR really depends. It takes some a few clicks and others hours to get in.
