course selection questions
Hello!
I am trying to plan what courses I will be taking next year (third year commerce) and have a question. What is the difference between level 3 commerce and honours level 3 commerce? I know there is a grade requirement to be an honours student but if I have the required grades am I automatically an honours student? Do I have to apply? I don't understand, and the courses I take next year depend on which of the two programs I am in, so I can't plan until I know.

Thanks for the help!!

Honours programs are 4 years while regular BAs are 3 years. Check your program in MUGSI and if you're planning to do the four year honours degree (and meet the requirements) make sure that's the one selected.

What ashleighp said is right generally speaking, but the commerce program at DeGroote is actually set up slightly differently. Both the honours commerce and regular commerce programs are four years long, but the difference is that honours commerce students take more commerce courses, while non-honours students take more electives.
That may seem like a small difference, but it has important implications. For example, I want to become a CPA. In order to get that certification though, I need to complete so many accounting courses. Being in the honours program lets me take all of the courses I need in order to be certified, and I don't believe I could take all of those courses if I wasn't in the honours program. (Though, if you're going for your CPA, I'll warn you that even honours students have to spend an extra semester at DeGroote in the summer after they graduate in order to finish up the credits they need for certification. I wish someone had told me that before I chose Mac)
