Courses That Get Taken Quick
For first year, I didn't really know what I was doing and it wasn't until after registration that I found out which classes tend to fill up pretty quickly.
Now I'm figuring out what classes I want for second year and I was wondering if you guys could offer some help as to which classes go pretty quickly [so I know generally what order to pick them in]
Courses I am interested in are
HIST 2QQ3 [Soviet Union]
HIST 2MC3 [Modern China]
HIST 2R03 [U.S. History]
HIST 2G03 [Latin America]
JAP 2Z03/JAP 2ZZ3 [2nd year japanese]
THTR&FLM 2S03 [German Film]
THRT&FLM 2FA3 [Film Analysis]
RELIG ST 2YY3 [Bible and Film]
RELIG ST 2BB3 [Female Divinity]
CMST 2R03 [Pop Music]
PHILO 2ZZ3 [Philosophy of Love and Sex]
Just, like, the faculties that usually go pretty quickly, or if you have experience with specific courses?
P.S. If it makes a difference, I'm in Soc Sci right now, but I'm switching into History

In my experience, the languages typically fill up quickly. Everyone wants to learn a new one, and the number of classes offered for each is usually limited.
Therefore, I would make your Japanese courses a priority.

Pop music fills up pretty quickly--I kept trying and was eventually able to get a spot, but it took months.

I agree. It really depends on when you get onto SOLAR. Also, keep in mind that you have essentially all of July and August to get into it if it's full. I recommend having a few back-ups just in case though, so that if one of your choices is full, you don't have to rush and pick any course that's available to make up for 30 units.

Everyone ? Really ?
I think it would be safer to say : " Most students want to learn a new language".

It may not apply to the original poster, but from my personal experience:
MMEDIA 1A03
MMEDIA 1B03
KINESIOL 1Y03
CHEM 1A03 with Dr. Lock
and I hear the two economic courses, ECON 1B03, ECON 1BB3.
they fill up pretty quickly.

Pop Music, Bible and Film, and most (if not all) language courses. Make Japanese your priority when selecting courses.
Also, if you get into Film Analysis and Bible&Film, see you in class.

Good course, terrible testing method. I would never take another course with Dick Day because his testing method is so terrible. He tests on random statistics (According to study X, what percentage of people have disorder Y?) and also tests to screw over people with any prior knowledge of the subject. For example, "Which of the following did we discuss in class that relates to X medication?" and multiple options will be factually correct, but only one was discussed in class, therefore it is the correct answer. I was actually shocked at the number of people that failed the midterm--it was something like one in every three people in the class failed :S (I don't remember the exact number, but it was way too high).
Content was interesting though, and he was a good lecturer (he records them, so skipping class is easy). I think the best part of the course was the guest lecturers, though.
