Dean's Honour List
If I took 6 units last summer and taking 30 units this current year, will the 6 units i took during the summer be taken into account when the registrar determines if I make the dean's list or will it just be the 30 units i take this year? And does anyone know what the dean's list certificate looks like?

last summer = last school year.

The 2013 summer = the current school year.

dont know what the cert looks like.

That's not usually true for how the Dean's honour list is calculated though...that's just true in terms of determining what year you're in.

You need a certain number of units for your average to be reviewed for the list. For most students, this occurs in April/May. After taking courses in the summer, you haven't taken enough units for your average to be reviewed (on the grade report it says "unreviewed average"). The next time you will have taken enough units is typically the following April/May, and so that is where these units will be considered.

One year I had a 9.4 average from fall/winter but got a 12 in a summer course the year before, so that bumped me up to a 9.5 and got me on the list

I got on Dean's Honour having only taken 27 units during the year, given that I took 18 units the previous summer. So...yes. Summer courses are considered.

yeah summa cum laude is definitely 9.5 or higher.

And as far as i know, there's nothing between dean's list and provost, but there is some award whose name I can't remember right now, and you get it if you're in the top whatever percent of your faculty (I think 80% but it might differ for different faculties).

8.5 is a joke.

id appreciated if there was something at the 11 mark.Which is doable. But a straight up 12 avg is impossible (for me atleast)

Graduation With Distinction standing may be awarded if a minimum Cumulative Average (CA) of 9.5 is achieved in a degree program. In this case, the Latin phrase summa cum laude ("with highest honour") will appear on the graduate's diploma.

that was a typo. It says 9.5 on the course calendar. And the top 5% is in the U.S.. Don't know why McMaster uses Summa Cum Laude
