What do they look at transferring between programs in Science?

I got a 4 in Chem 1AA3 and a 6 in 1A03.
I want to transfer to Molecular Genetics after this year.
Should I take it again? Do they look at marks in 1st year?

You should probably talk to an academic advisor to be sure, but I think if you shadow the program (take all/most of the courses they would take in second year) and if you do well in those, you'll have a much better chance at transferring in for third year, regardless of what your first year marks are. Basically, you need higher marks to get into the program, and it looks better if those higher marks come from 2nd yr molecular bio/genetics courses than first year courses, if you're looking to transfer in after second year.

Thank you! Looks like a lot of courses are program-specific though :(

no don't take retake it. If you do better in upper year chemistry marks, that would look a lot better than just retaking first year courses.

Nope, most of the courses are very general. Chem 2OA3/2OB3, Bio 2B03/2C03/2EE3/2A03/2D03 are all open if you're in pretty much any level 2 program. Beyond that, you'd just pick a couple of courses off of their course list--whatever you're interested in/have the prerequisites for.

Just remember that the program you want to get into has limited spots, so it depends on how many people accept this year and how many people drop out during the next year.
