Double Major
Is it possible to get a double major in Kinesiology and Biochemistry? I can't really find any information on getting double majors within the science faculty. I'm in second year kinesiology and I have taken the preqreqs to get into the program already, but I wasn't sure if it was possible to do another major alongside kinesiology.

Both programs are very rigorous and have a LOT of requirements, you wouldn't be able to finish it in 4 years even if you took all the biochem courses as electives. I would talk to an academic counsellor (BSB 129) if you want to know how to go about doing something around the same lines. The only thing I can think of is coming back for another degree. Although I'm not sure how long this would take, since a lot of courses are only offered once a year, not offered in the summer, etc.

Edit: What about a minor in biochem?

Yeah I was planning on doing it now, I was just curious if a double major was possible. Yeah, I wasn't expecting that it would work out in 4 years, I was thinking at least 5 years and possibly a summer term. But thanks, I'll definitely ask an academic advisor!

No, I'm pretty sure it's not possible for any majors for which a combined program has not been offered, including the kin-biochem combination. Unlike the Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences, which have a greater degree of flexibility and therefore offer more program combination possibilites, programs in the Faculty of Science tend to have more required courses, making it difficult to combine unless a program has been set out for you.

All possibilities for combined programs are listed under each subject involved in the combination in the undergrad calendar. So, as you can see, you can't have a double a major for Kin and anything else, as there is no such listed program, vs. for example, biology can be combined with philosophy or mathematics. You could do a minor in biochem though, if you wanted to.

I'm not sure about whether or not there is a difference, but a combined degree is getting one degree from two areas of study though, right? And a double major will get two degrees upon graduating? Or am I completely wrong? lol I was wondering if I could get a degree in kinesiology while also getting a degree in biochemistry or some other area of science.

You could get your degree in Kin and racked up as many Biochems as possible. If you DO NOT declare a minor, you can come back for a B.Sc. using the credits you already have (so, like an extra year or two). If you DO declare the minor, you can only get the H.Bsc (an extra year)

I looked into this for History a bit, then decided I was better off getting a minor and, if I stay in non-prof school, getting a masters instead of a second bachelor.
