dropping a course in first year?
I am considering dropping chem 1a03 ( an elective) and taking an easier course second term. Is this possible? Will I get my money back for this course? Any other things I should consider before making this decision? This is my first year....

so are you going to overload next semester with 6 courses? depending on how easy next semester is that might be a good idea, or you'll have to do it in summer.

Wait until you see how you do on the midterm. Yes, it is possible to drop and get some portion of the money back. However, you will need to make it up one summer in summer school or overload (I wouldn't recommend this).
