You should really try to sit near the very back.
That way you can make jokes and talk to your friends with no one shushing you...if someone does you can just say "so sit near the front "

My friends sit in the front as well so it was really easy to save seats for each other. It doesn't really matter if you go in late because most lecture halls have doors at the back. The only exceptions I can think of is JHE 376 and ABB 102 which have the doors in the front. I suggest you don't go late to these classes. I was late once or twice and.. let's just say never again -_-.

Once in first year I was late to my Physics 1L03 class which was in JHE 376, I had Nijat Rizza as a proff ... anyways I walked in late with a coffee in my hand, he is like "MY FRIEND!! WHY DIDN'T YOU BRING ME COFFEE TOO....?" I just looked at him and ran UP THERE .... it was horrible, maybe that was my intervention to never be late again.

lol i love this q. i remember last year when i went to the orientation, i asked the same q, and you know what the sci student there told me.. she said : " if you want good seats you should go an hour early, typically there will be kids waiting outside the lecture hall an hour before class" ... yea total BS.
haha
i usually go 5/10 min early, some halls dont really have good/bad seats and some do, youll learn what you like once you start going. but typically no one waits outside an hour before class, not even 30 min. people start gather about 15-20 min before class. and even then its not alot cus those are the ones that didnt have a lecture before that class. most times people will have lectures before the class so theyll be there around the time you are. also there are always seats in the front so you dont really need to rush and be early to get the good ones. and i personally like the middle seats and theres always enough space

I would like some input on my situation: I have a tutorial that is only offered at 8:30, and i have two options ahead of me. Make my other classes 10:30 (so 1 8:30, 4 10:30) or make some of my other classes 8:30 (3 8:30, 2 10:30). I know that may seem slightly odd to do, but my reasoning is that if i'm used to waking up at 10:30 4 times a week out of 5, no way in hell i'm going to wake up for that lone 8:30 class. Is it wise to add more 8:30 classes to prevent me from sleeping in, or is that silly logic?

Silly logic. Doesn't really matter what time you get up each morning. Just gotta make sure you sleep a couple hours early on the night before the 8:30. Optimize your schedule to have the least amount of 8:30 if you hate getting up that early.

I used to think that was the case before first year, but what's even more important is to try and sleep and wake up at the same time everyday regardless of when you have class. That way you can get to class on time and even on 10:30 days you'll have some time to do some work or freshen up before class. Personally, I would go with the latter option because it's a little more evened out, but that's assuming you don't have any night classes or anything on those days.

It's kind of surprising that you guys don't have a lot of people fighting for the front seats in classes.
Is it just my misfortune to be stuck with the over-eager keeners then? I remember chem 1A03/1AA3, it was close to impossible to get a front row seat.
Then I had orgo over the summer, and people actually came 30-40 minutes before class started to get a seat/reserve 5 million seats for their friends. Seriously. If you got to class 15 minutes before it started, you'd find the room 3/4 full already.
for other courses, the front seats were avoided like the plague. (lol, anthro1A03)

Just sleep earlier the night before the 8:30.
1 8:30 class >>> multiple 8:30 classes

If I ever have to be faced with a class that is 8:30 I would literally drop the course and take it during the summer. I CAN'T DO 8:30 CLASSES. I never had one so far KNOCK WOOD, so we will see in fourth year.

Realistically, if you're a night person like myself, nothing you do will ease the pain of that 8:30 class.
If I wake up too early I get headaches, and if I train my body to sleep super early (like 1am) and don't set an alarm I'll sleep until like noon or 1pm.
That being said, if you can, change the tutorial so you don't have the 8:30am class, but don't change more classes to 8:30am.
1 8:30am class a week is fine, more than that is brutal. You'll be able to wake up for that one 8:30am class it will just be annoying.

Chem was the only course that was like that. In second year, I never had that problem at ALL! And with chem, it was only because I was in Hatala's section and every ONE and I mean EVERYONE wanted to attend his lectures.

I would say it depends on the class cuz some of my classes had ppl come in really late but for the more packed classes I would have to get there maybe 5-10 mins early.
