does anyone know any easy social science or humanitites electives that do not have any essay component?

There are too many to list, but what are your interests? You could try linguistics 1A03/AA3, econ1B03/BB3. There isn't too much work, and there aren't any essays .
As everyone will surely agree, if you put in the time/effort, a good grade is always possible. With linguistics, you just have to keep practicing.

Macroeconomics and Microeconomics are probably the easiest first year courses at McMaster.

For micro 1BO3 I managed to get 11 without even putting that much effort.(if you don't cram then for sure you can get 12) midterms are really similar to practice tests but then exam isn't as easy as midterms (3days of studying should be enough though). Also, Holmes is a great professor. Macroeconomics, apparently the exam was brutal.
