Economics elective for Nursing???
Hey guys!

Im a first year nursing student...and for next term I'm either considering Geography 1ha3 (cultures and societies) OR Microeconomics (1B03) ....

I heard geography is pretty easy (despite many assignments) but Microeconomics fits in beautifully with my schedule!!! ...like I get wednesday off and econ lectures fills up the days when i have one class

So , especially as a nursing student already taking anatomy/physiology=( and psychology, should I go with the **easier geography or take microeconomics (which I'm not too sure about the level of difficulty!!!).
I'm fairly decent at math btw...

Thanks so much !! =)

thanks but i;m more worried about which course would be harder to get a good mark in....like is econ a hard/timeconsuming course for a person not in commerce?

ditto.

Besides, how well you are going to do on a subject depends on what you are good at..... and how much you are interested in it (motivation factor). The more you are interested in it, the more likely you will spend more time on it. Conversely, if you find it deathly boring, you will skip lectures and/or fall asleep in them... (anatomy.. COUGH COUGH!! oh god. i am so screwed for that final. )

Agreed with what has been said. It really depends on what interests you.
I took both of those classes and did better in Geo, buttttt that was mostly because alot of it was review from high school and I LOVED geo in high school.

With this in mind, yeah Geo has a TON of assignments (every week, if not every few weeks) so compare to your other classes. On top of that Microecon has an assignment every week as well (it's called Aplia - pretty much an online quiz due once a week), though the geography ones are much more time consuming.

As well, economics courses have a snowball effect to them. If you don't understand the material from the beginning, you'll be screwed essentially, because pretty much everything builds on stuff you learned the week before. Geo doesn't really work like this, so I liked this aspect of Geo.

MicroEconomics was pretty easy. I got an 8 in it and I wasn't really trying. The aplia assignments aren't too hard either until closer to the end of the course, just dragging stuff around the screen and answering multiple choice questions. It was kinda boring though.

Looks like we're in the exact same boat! I was debating over whether I should take GEO 1HA3 or ECON 1B03...I ended up choosing econ just because I wasn't too keen on dealing with all those geo assignments people kept talking about. Clearly I based my decision on convenience ...which I don't really regret. In my opinion, I'd regret taking Geog and having to deal with all those tedious assignments along with PBL papers, psych assignments, anatomy tutorial problems, etc. One simple online Aplia quiz/assignment thing looked like a better bargain to me.

There is the interest factor though, so if you're the kind of person who tends to slack when it comes to subjects they find boring... well, you get the idea. I personally liked how Econ fit perfectly into my schedule as well, so yeah! That was my 2 cents. I've obviously based my decision on things that I've heard, so what I've said may be a little biased...I'd take my advice from someone who's taken both courses haha. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I was in the EXACT same position as you and good luck on trying to decide!
