What electives to choose first year?
Hello, I am wondering what electives I should choose if I'm entering Kinesiology I and want enough credits to obtain a second teachable in mathematics. 3 full math credits are required, 2 must be level 2 or higher. I'm thinking of taking calc 1ls3, 1lt3 first year, then I'm not sure what other math courses after that. Also, should I take bio 1m03? I was thinking only 1A03 then going to 2nd year cell biology from there. My aspirations are either teaching, naturopathy, and possibly dentistry. Thanks a lot!

To take upper year math courses, you'll also need math 1B03. Also, they recommend taking 1A03/1AA3 (instead of 1LS3/1LT3) if you're planning on taking upper year math courses.

You should look into the requirements for dentistry school - most likely they require upper year biology courses, in which case you need to take first-year bio so that you're allowed to take the upper year courses.

Or you could push some 1st year courses back to 2nd year...it's up to you.

I would see if you could get signed into Health Sciences 1LL3 – Human Biochemistry I.

this is a required course for nursing, I know of students who were signed into the second yr pharmacology for nursing, and the third year biochem for nursing which is technically a nutrition course.

I am sure there was also students signed into the second yr microbiology for nurses.

I don't know the course codes for the second and third yr courses I mentioned.

The contact person for Human Biochemistry I is Terry McCurdy http://fhs.mcmaster.ca/nursing/faculty_mccurdy.html

that does not answer your question about math as a teachable but I think those courses can be put towards chemistry or biology as a teachable

Math 1LS and Math 1LT are totally fine. I took them in first year (in life sci) and now am graduating with a B.Sc in math so they are fine to take. As the previous poster said you should also take Math 1B03.

Other good math courses for the following years:
- Math 2X03 (vector calc 1)
- Math 2XX3 (vector calc 2)
- Math 2R03 (linear alg 2)
- Math 2C03 (diff equations)
- Math 3B03 (geometry) - need math 2xx and 2r for prereqs
- Math 3FF3 (partial diff equations) - need 2c and 2xx for prereqs

You will have to take a close look at prerequisites.

Also FYI, most teachers colleges usually require one full year (or two half courses) to be at the senior level (so level 3 or 4)
