Does anyone know if I'll be able to persuade the Biology department into letting me take BIO 1A03 in the first term (it's full at the moment) instead of second, because then I'd be taking an even 19/19 units per term instead of a lopsided 16/22 if I'm forced to take it in term two. Thanks!

Yes, since its a part of your degree. Nothing wrong with taking it term 2 if its availible. You can always have the bonus of being able to get useful info from your friends (pitfalls, midterms/exams, notes, etc)

Just because it's a required course doesn't mean they'll open a spot in term 1. They will most likely say that you're registered in the course, therefore you have met your requirement. It's still worth a try though, anything can happen.

I got kicked off SOLAR a week ago and CHEM 1AA3/BIOLOGY 1A03 aren't on my course list because I didn't have the corequisite HTH SCI 1BS0 for Bio and Cathy is working on CHEM 1AA3. Don't worry about it, it's a mandatory course and they'll figure it out.
